What is PhoenixCrate?
PhoenixCrate is a quarterly book subscription box that focuses on noblebright fantasy literature. In each quarterly box, you will receive a noblebright fantasy novel, a signed bookplate, an exclusive interview with the author, and 3-5 exclusive bookish goodies related to the theme of the box. Most of our featured books are paperbacks, but when possible we include hardbacks. We support indie and small press authors and indie creators. We consult with the authors of the featured book and bonus book for every box, and we include an exclusive interview with the authors!
We read hundreds of books and choose our very favorites to share with you. These won’t be the same books you find in other book boxes – we seek out the very best undiscovered gems. As for the items… As much as we love our favorite fandoms, we don’t want to just promote existing fandoms. Instead, we find indie artists and creatives who are making fantastic original art, and share their work with you.
What is noblebright fantasy?
Think honor, integrity, courage, generosity, and kindness. Think redemption and forgiveness. Think the shining light in the middle of darkness that nearly overwhelms.

When will I get my first box?
Boxes are shipped between the fifth and the tenth of March, June, September, and December. Within the US, boxes generally take 1-3 business days to arrive.
How do the subscriptions work?
We offer subscription plans billed quarterly or prepaid for a year at four different levels.

Yes, you can. You can do this in your dashboard.
Can I order a previous box? Or one item in a box?
Maybe. We rarely have extra boxes or leftover goodies, but when we do, they are listed for individual sale in our shop. Once these items are gone, they’re gone! You may be able to find some of the items, or something similar, from the creators.
For what ages is PhoenixCrate suitable?
Our boxes feature YA and adult titles that are PG-13 or lower in content and language, but may contain adult themes and perspectives. We strive for books that are complex enough for adult readers to love, while also being clean enough for younger readers.
What is noblebright fantasy? What kind of book will it be?
We focus on noblebright fantasy, which is explained in greater detail in several articles on noblebright.org. The short version is that in noblebright fantasy, good and evil exist, and characters have agency to improve their lives and their world. The characters’ choices matter. Hope isn’t naive or silly, but a courageous choice. The worlds are not utopian, but heroes do exist, and their choices matter. Noblebright fantasy is fantasy worth believing in.
Most books we ship will be paperbacks. Why? We find undiscovered gems of noblebright fantasy from the indie author community, small publishers, and occasionally larger publishers. Many of the books are only available as paperbacks. These books will not be in other book boxes!
What if I already own the book?
Since we select books that haven’t gotten as much publicity as we think they deserve, we think this is pretty unlikely. Unfortunately, if you do already own the book, we do not offer refunds at this time.
