Our Story

About PhoenixCrate

PhoenixCrate is a quarterly subscription box for noblebright fantasy book lovers. What is noblebright fantasy? Think hope, integrity, courage, and redemption. The book worlds may be dark, but the stories are written from a worldview of hope rather than cynicism.

Our boxes include a noblebright fantasy book with a bookplate signed by the author as well as 3 – 5 fantastic book-related items. Each box has a theme to tie everything together! We ship our boxes between the 10th and 15th of March, June, September, and December. We also have special limited edition boxes throughout the year!

PhoenixCrate offers several different subscription plan options, including:

  • Pay quarterly with no commitment, or commit for a year and receive a discount on every box!
  • Three different subscription levels: PhoenixCrate, PhoenixCrate Deluxe, and Just Both Books

Book lovers can also purchase single boxes:

  • Single purchase the current box as a gift or for yourself
  • Single purchase past boxes (limited availability)
  • Single purchase limited edition boxes

How PhoenixCrate Started

PhoenixCrate was started in spring 2018 by C. J. Brightley, an indie author and owner of Spring Song Press. A lifelong fan of fantasy, she also runs Noblebright.org, a site dedicated to sharing the best of noblebright fantasy both classic and new. As part of the indie author community, C. J. has met readers and authors who are passionate about finding hope, courage, and redemption in the fantasy stories we love.

PhoenixCrate’s first box was shipped in September 2018.

  • The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
  • The Two Monarchies Sequence by W.R. Gingell

I live in Northern VA with my husband and two young children. They keep me pretty busy, but when I have free time, I’m generally writing, reading, teaching karate, baking, or making jewelry.
